Chongqing - Attracting over 450 million tourists in one year is enough to make any city stand out on the list of world tourist destinations. Chongqing city, with its beautiful landscapes and cultural appeals, has become the rising star on the world tourism map.
On Nov.25, the Night of North Station Chongqing Culture and Tourism Reception took place in Chongqing Jialing River Cableway Museum. Held by Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, the event aims to promote Chongqing International Culture and Tourism Exchange Center and International Culture and Tourism Window of Chongqing Bonded Port, which serves as platforms to encourage international tourism and cultural exchanges.
The reception has brought together Consul-Generals, diplomatic officials from Hungary, the Netherlands, Uruguay, the Philippines, Japan, Canada, Ethiopia, Italy, Cambodia and the UK, officials from Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development as well as Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government.
Chongqing International Culture and Tourism Exchange Center is located where the Chongqing Jialing River Cableway Museum is. Mr. Liu Qi, the Director of Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, described the site as “ the city’s important historical and cultural resources”. By taking full advantage of the Cableway Museum’s unique location and culture bearing, he said, Chongqing International Culture and Tourism Exchange Center had been established here to serve for international exchanges.
The surge in Chongqing tourism is quite eye-catching. According to WTTC, Chongqing has ranked the first among the fastest growing tourist cities for 2 years. In 2019, the city has received 453 million tourists with 3.54 million inbounded tourists. “Chongqing’s tourism has undergone tremendous development in recent years.” Remarked Mr. Qin Dingbo, the Deputy Director of Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development. “ But our inbound tourism performance is not as good as the overall situation due to various factors. ” Mr. Qin pointed out the concerns behind the glorious picture. According to him, to tackle the issue, 3 projects have been carried out. They are International Research and Study Tourism Base in Roosevelt Library plus the two on promotion during the reception.
The project's promotion also saw great enthusiasm among the Consul Generals this night. “It’s a very interesting idea about commodity center in the bonded zone (a part of International Culture and Tourism Window of Chongqing Bonded Port project). I think there are several countries already there. I don’t see why the Netherlands could not be there.” Mr. Koen Sizoo, the Consul-General of Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chongqing, told iChongqing. “In every possible way, we can support Italian companies to come to promote bilateral exchanges. we are open to cooperation. I think the projects could have great success. ” Mr. Davide Castellani, the Deputy Consul General of Italy in Chongqing, shared his thoughts with iChongqing.
