The mass production experience event of China’s first L3 self-driving vehicle was held in Chongqing at 17:00, March 10, in the form of online broadcast. The car can effectively identify people, cars, and obstacles, perceive the state of tiredness of the driver, get road information within 8km in real-time, etc.

The Changan UNI-T equipped with the L3 self-driving system allows people to experience online the L3 self-driving performance on real open roads.
“The sensing system, which is composed mainly of a camera, millimeter-wave radar, and ultrasonic radar, is one of the technical highlights of the L3 self-driving system of Changan Automobile,” introduced the person in charge of the company. This system can effectively identify vehicles, pedestrians, riders, and obstacles and perceive the field of view, tiredness, and other states of the driver to provide a reliable basis for intelligent decisions of the self-driving system. Besides, it can also effectively identify lane lines, guardrails, traffic signs, and other information and obtain road information within 8km in real-time by virtue of the road information of the high precision map and the ADAS map. In this way, the system could realize lane-level high precision positioning and precise path planning, thus ensuring the accuracy of the self-driving task.

What are the technical advantages of the L3 self-driving system which dared demonstrate its performance on real open roads?
“By establishing the self-driving software development process (CA-SDS), Changan Automobile has independently developed the core technologies of the L3 self-driving system, and it owns all independent intellectual property rights for all system algorithms,” added the person in charge. Moreover, this system has completed 50 million-kilometer tests in tens of thousands of scenes.
At present, within specific electronic fences (including typical expressways and urban expressways) and even in a traffic jam, a vehicle can realize self-driving operation for an extended period with the max speed of 40km/h until the system reminds the driver. If the driver doesn’t take over operation after being told, the system will implement a risk mitigation strategy, and the vehicle will slow down and stop.
In recent years, Chongqing is vigorously implementing an action plan on innovation-driven development strategy led by Big Data Intelligence, thus attracting numerous well-known intelligent industries at home and abroad to the city. According to the List of Major Municipal Construction Projects in 2020 issued by the General Office of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, Yongchuan District is going to build an open self-driving test base in Western China. After the completion of this project in 2022, the district will set up a self-driving test operation center of Baidu Apollo and a self-driving big data service center.
