Simon Pierre Adovelande, Ambassador of the Republic of Benin to China, and his delegation visited Chongqing from July 11 to 13. During their visit, Ambassador Adovelande and his team conducted in-depth inspections in Tongnan District, Yongchuan District, and Jiulongpo District.
They held discussions and exchanges with relevant district and county governments, reaching agreements to promote friendly cooperation between Chongqing and Benin in areas such as agricultural technology innovation, NEV industry, and culture-tourism integration.
During their visit to Tongnan District, they visited the Chongqing (Tongnan) Seed Breeding Center, Chongqing Mengtai Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Chongqing Hongxi Automobile Technology Co., Ltd., and the Shuangjiang Ancient Town, gaining insights into the agricultural technology innovation, modern manufacturing development, and culture-tourism integration in the region.
During the discussions, Wen Tianping, Secretary of the CPC Tongnan District Committee, mentioned that Benin has a long history, abundant resources, and a favorable geographical location, making it a treasure trove of diverse cultures and a trade hub in West Africa.
Chongqing is an important hub for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, while Tongnan District, located in the central area bridging Chengdu and Chongqing, enjoys a unique geographical advantage and abundant resources. With significant historical development opportunities such as the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC), as well as the promotion of high-quality integrated development in western Chongqing, Tongnan District is poised for remarkable growth and holds broad market prospects.
He added that this visit marks a promising beginning for collaboration between Benin and Chongqing and hoped that both sides could leverage their respective advantages and identify common interests to explore the vast market in areas such as automobiles, energy, trade, agriculture, and cultural tourism, and to jointly promote people-to-people exchanges, facilitate mutual trade of products, and foster better industrial development between the two regions.
Ambassador Adovelande said that Benin, located in central-southern West Africa, possesses ample natural resources and has maintained stable economic growth in recent years. The friendship between Benin and China has a long history, and China is an important trading partner for Benin. After Benin joined the BRI, the relationship between the two countries became even closer.
He also expressed his hope that through this brotherly and friendly exchange, a regular platform can be established to promote the realizing of substantial cooperation achievements in agriculture, industry, and cultural tourism and that companies from Tongnan District and even the whole city can invest in Benin and explore new ways of cooperation together, bringing more benefits to the people of both regions.
