Corning's primary focus has been on specialty glass and ceramic materials. In 2015, the company initiated a liquid crystal display glass substrate project in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, continually expanding its production lines after that.
Electronic glass utilized in smartphones, tablets, and other devices consists primarily of glass substrates and cover glass. The glass substrate forms the central part of electronic display panels, while cover glass is positioned above the display panel, providing support and protection.
"Gorilla Glass" is one such cover glass product produced by Corning, holding a monopoly in China's high-end electronic market. Key clients include Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi. Presently, China's cover glass market heavily relies on imports.
Corning stands as a global leader in materials science and manufacturing. The company's groundbreaking achievements include inventing the world's first glass light bulb in 1879, spurring Edison's advancements. In 1947, mass production of television cathode ray tubes enabled widespread television adoption. In 1970, Corning's laboratories unveiled the first optical fiber.
