Chongqing - Chinese domestic vehicle brands demonstrated strong performance in vehicle intelligence, surpassing their joint venture and foreign counterparts, according to a third-party testing and rating report.
The report unveiled at the exclusive release event of the Smart China Expo 2023 on Tuesday by the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) examined 24 mass-produced intelligent vehicles from 22 brands, covering models that Chinese consumers are interested in.
In this evaluation, based on the 2020 version of the IVISTA test and rating protocols, both domestic and joint venture or foreign-branded intelligent vehicles made up an equal share of the total.
This version was carried out in April 2021. It encompasses five sub-indices: intelligent safety, intelligent driving, intelligent parking, intelligent interaction, and intelligent energy efficiency.
It introduces the "intelligent star rating" for the first time, with the highest rating being "five-star intelligence" based on comprehensive results across these five sub-indices.
The report highlighted that domestic brands have over 65 percent of their evaluated models rated as five-star intelligent cars, significantly higher than the 25 percent proportion for joint ventures and foreign brands.
China's vehicle intelligence is continuously improving, with steady advancements in safety, driving, and interaction. The report found domestic brands outperform joint ventures and foreign brands in intelligent parking adoption and excellence rates.
Among the 24 evaluated vehicle models, 11 achieved a five-star rating, exceeding 45 percent, indicating a sustained improvement in the overall performance and product quality of intelligent cars in the Chinese market, the report said.
IVISTA, the China Intelligent Vehicle Index, has been built as the world's first fair, impartial, professional, and authoritative third-party testing and rating system oriented to consumers for intelligent connected vehicles since 2017 produced by CAERI.
