Chongqing - "Changshou District will plan to build a comprehensive new chemical material distribution center for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC)," said Wang Zhijiang, Vice General Manager of Chongqing Yuba Logistics Co., Ltd. during the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor Media Tour, Chongqing on November 9.
Situated to the east of Chongqing's central urban area, Changshou District stretches across both banks of the majestic Yangtze River. It is renowned as a crucial hub for steel and chemical industries in the western region, serving as the primary urban center and pilot area in the urban integration development of Chongqing.
Yuba Special Railway, located in Changshou District, is one of the arrival and departure stations of the ILSTC in Chongqing and is the only special railway in Chongqing that is qualified and certified to container dangerous goods arrival and delivery. It is a public logistics platform for the railway transportation of hazardous chemicals in the Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone.
"The comprehensive chemical new material distribution center mainly includes container handling operation area, container supporting area, storage tank area and supporting facilities, with an estimated total investment of about 600 million yuan (USD 82 million)," Wang added.
Among them, the container supporting area is mainly positioned as the storage service of various temperature control and chemicals based on propane goods, as well as the storage and replacement of various containers and value-added services such as tank heating, tank cleaning, repair, and container truck parking.
The construction of the container supporting area is expected to be completed in 2024. After completion, it can provide professional railway containers, especially the arrival, departure, storage, yard, multimodal transportation, and other integrated logistics services.
"At present, we transport liquid benzene, a main raw material for BASF from other regions of China," said Wang. The liquid benzene is mainly shipped from Pengzhou in Sichuan Province, Kunming in Yunnan Province and Wuhan in Hubei Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. BASF's business in Greater China includes petrochemicals, intermediates, performance materials, and etc. and it has larger production sites in Shanghai, Nanjing and Chongqing.
Wang continued that now half of the BASF's finished products are transported through Yuba, and the other half is through Tuanjie Village Station, and then transported to all parts of the country by rail.
"In the past, it was necessary to transport it to Shapingba Tuanjie Village Station by truck to go overseas quickly, but now enterprises can choose to deliver goods locally nearby, saving at least ten days of transportation time compared with river-sea combined transport," Wang continued.
After completing the comprehensive new chemical materials distribution center of the ILSTC of Yuba Logistics, it will become a distribution center for railway, highway, and waterway transportation of chemical products based in Changshou and radiating throughout the southwest region.
"To the south, it can go directly to Southeast Asia through the ILSTC train in the west, radiate Central Asia and Europe through the China-Europe Railway Express to the west, and realize river-sea combined transport through the Golden Waterway of the Yangtze River to the east," Wang added.
