Chongqing- Titan Airways has launched the first direct cargo flight between China's Chongqing and London Stansted Airport, with its inaugural flight departing on December 12, creating a new air trade route between Chongqing and the UK.
The flights are scheduled thrice a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, using an Airbus A330-300 freighter with a capacity of 62 tons, mainly for shipping cross-border e-commerce products.
This new route boosts the international cargo operations at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, increasing its global routes to 12, with a total of 31 flights weekly. Currently, the airport offers four cargo routes each to North America, Europe, and Asia. It supports 20 international passenger routes, cumulatively enhancing Chongqing's global cargo capacity.
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, designated as a comprehensive pilot zone for cross-border e-commerce, continually enhances its policies to bolster this sector. As of November 20, its cross-border e-commerce exports exceeded 5,000 tons. The airport's ground services team has established a dedicated group to streamline operations, while customs offer 24/7 clearance, ensuring swift processing of exported goods.
These initiatives, coupled with tailored support plans for different goods, promote the international presence of products made in Chongqing.
In a broader development plan, Chongqing is fast-tracking the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing world-class airport cluster. A vital component of this initiative is the expansion of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, including a new terminal (T3B), rapid transit systems, parking facilities, and enhanced cargo capabilities.
This project, estimated at 22.5 billion yuan (3.16 billion US dollars), symbolizes a significant step in developing Chongqing as a major inland opening-up gateway.
Established in 1988 and based at London Stansted Airport, Titan Airways operates under a Type A license from the UK's Civil Aviation Authority. In 2021, the airline expanded into cargo and mail transport within China.
