BYD's Fifth Generation DM Technology Launch: Initiating the Era of 2 Liters per 100 Kilometers Fuel Consumption

On May 28th, the launch event for BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology, along with the Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i, was officially held. As BYD’s latest plug-in hybrid technology, the fifth-generation DM technology achieves the world’s highest engine thermal efficiency of 46.06%, the world’s lowest 100-kilometer electricity deficit fuel consumption of 2.9L, and the world’s longest comprehensive range of 2100 kilometers. It not only sets a new historical low for fuel consumption per 100 kilometers but also initiates the era of 2 liters per 100 kilometers fuel consumption.


What’s more crucial is that BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology was launched into production immediately. The first models equipped with the fifth-generation DM technology, the Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i, have started their market launch and delivery. The Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i offer five versions, with prices ranging from RMB 99,800 to 139,800 ($13,800 to $19,300). It is evident that the launch of these two new plug-in hybrid models, with one-third the fuel consumption of gasoline vehicles and three times the comprehensive range, will overturn the gasoline vehicle market to the end, redefining a new benchmark for plug-in hybrid technology.

At the launch event, the most exciting moment was the official delivery of the Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i.

The BYD Qin L DM-i is available in four colors: Tea Crystal Gray, Amber Green, Jian Kiln Purple, and Run Jade White. It offers two pure electric range options under CLTC conditions: 80km and 120km, with prices ranging from RMB 99,800 to 139,800.

In terms of body size, the new car’s dimensions are 4830*1900*1495mm, with a wheelbase of 2790mm. For the interior, the Qin L DM-i features an integrated central console design and a new generation of multifunctional steering wheel from the Dynasty series, with core functions such as start, shift, and driving mode. Thanks to the fifth-generation DM technology, the Qin L DM-i’s 100-kilometer NEDC electricity deficit fuel consumption is only 2.9L, and the comprehensive range with full fuel and electricity can reach 2100 kilometers, thereby changing the image of mid-size sedans from “big and fuel-consuming” to a new trend of “big and fuel-saving.”

The Seal 06 DM-i is available in four colors: Qinhaigreen, Warm Smoked Tea, Snowfield White, and Atlantis Gray. It adopts the ocean net family-style front face design, with sharp headlights on both sides, a fastback-style side curve with semi-hidden door handles, and a through-type tail light at the rear. The body dimensions are 4830*1875*1495mm, with a wheelbase of 2790mm.

In terms of technical features, like the Qin L DM-i, the Seal 06 DM-i is also equipped with the fifth-generation DM technology, thus also possessing the characteristics of low fuel consumption and high range. Its 100-kilometer NEDC electricity deficit fuel consumption is 2.9L, and the comprehensive range can also reach 2100 kilometers. In addition, the Seal 06 DM-i comes standard with 13 highlight configurations to provide the best driving experience.

Price-wise, the Seal 06 DM-i’s 80km luxury model is priced at RMB 99,800, the 80km premium model at RMB 109,800, the 120km honor model at RMB 119,800, the 120km enjoyment model at RMB 129,800, and the 120km flagship model at RMB 139,800.

With the launch of the Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i, BYD officially initiates the era of 2 liters per 100 kilometers fuel consumption from various dimensions such as fuel saving, technology, design, space, driving, intelligence, and safety.
