Chongqing - At the 2024 Boao Forum for Automotive, themed "New Tech, New Ecosystem, New Brands, New Markets," China Merchants Testing Vehicle Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CMVR) unveiled key industry assessments, highlighting its role in advancing high-quality growth in China’s automotive sector.
China Merchants Group, with its solid foundation in the trade-transportation-warehousing-inspection sectors, including logistics, warehousing, and testing, is playing a key role in enhancing global trade.
At the forum, CMVR, in partnership with the China Economic Information Service, Sinotrans Overseas, and China Merchants Auto Trading, signed an MoU for the "Credit + Shipping Warehouse Inspection" initiative, which will streamline international services and boost global expansion for Chinese auto brands.

At the forum, Min Zhaoyuan, Party Secretary and CEO of CMVR, addressed the rapid growth of China’s automotive parts industry. While sales revenue is steadily rising, the industry remains heavily reliant on imports for key components, with foreign manufacturers continuing to dominate.
However, Min emphasized that the accelerating development of new energy and intelligent connected vehicles is driving the localization of automotive parts. Domestic suppliers are increasingly advantaged in responsiveness and cost management, and as R&D capabilities improve, the trend toward domesticization is expected to intensify. Chinese firms are poised to make significant advances in intelligent driving and smart chassis systems.
Cao Fei, a Party Committee member and Technical Committee Director at CMVR, highlighted the rapid growth of China’s new energy intelligent connected vehicle (NEV) sector, driven by favorable policies, technological advances, and infrastructure development. However, he noted that safety concerns remain significant as the industry evolves.
To address these challenges, CMVR has developed a comprehensive, multi-dimensional verification platform covering passive safety, active safety, fire safety, functional safety, cybersecurity, and data security. The platform provides essential safety testing and evaluation services for the development of NEVs.
At the forum, CMVR unveiled several key assessments in collaboration with the Automotive Quality and Brand Credit Laboratory.
The "Long Teng Wan Li Super Long Test" will evaluate NEVs under extreme climates and terrains, focusing on energy consumption, range, handling, and comfort to guide product development.

The Electric Vehicle Fire Hazard Index recognized nine models, including GWM Tank 400 Hi4-T and Leapmotor C10, for top safety ratings, while Li Auto L7 and Deepal G318 received "Five-Star Safety" for the second half of 2024, setting reliable standards for consumers.
The Intelligent Cabin Assessment also highlighted Li Auto L9 and AITO M9 for their advanced smart cockpit technologies, marking significant progress in automotive intelligence.
In the future, CMVR’s ongoing efforts to advance comprehensive, objective, and actionable assessments for the automotive industry are helping drive innovation and safety within China’s rapidly evolving car market. With these latest achievements, the institute continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the automotive industry and strengthening China’s position in the global market.
