Chongqing- On December 24, Chongqing launched the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (Chongqing-Vientiane) cross-border rail and road services simultaneously, especially for the transport of Chongqing-made motorcycles, creating synergies between rail and road transport.
The services were officially inaugurated at the Nanpeng railway station and the Chongqing Nanpeng Highway Bonded Logistics Center (Type B), which are located in Banan District, Chongqing.
The cross-border rail service, departing from Nanpeng railway station, is specifically designed to transport motorcycles and parts manufactured by companies like Zonsen Industrial Group and Chongqing Astronautic Bashan Motorcycle Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
Zonsen Industrial Group, based in Chongqing, is ranked among China's Top 500 Private Enterprises and Top 500 Manufacturing Enterprises. Its main products include motorcycle engines, power machinery, small aircraft engines, and key motorcycle components.
Bashan specializes in the production of two- and three-wheeled motorcycles, beach cars, and motorcycle engines. It has integrated R&D, manufacturing, and sales. It boasts advanced automated production and testing facilities; its export revenue exceeds 100 million U.S. dollars.
An official from the Chongqing Railway Logistics Center confirmed that the first train on this route carries 30 TEUs worth around 10 million yuan (about 1.37 million U.S. dollars). The train will travel via the China-Laos Railway, passing through Mohan Port in Yunnan Province, and is expected to reach Vientiane in five days.
Simultaneously, cross-border road shuttles operated by Chongqing Gongyun ASEAN International Logistics Co., Ltd. transport motorcycles, parts, and electromechanical products from the Chongqing Nanpeng Highway Bonded Logistics Center (Type B). These vehicles, which complement the rail service, are expected to reach Vientiane in four days.
"The debut of the cross-border train marks a breakthrough in cross-border rail transport of automobile and motorcycle products from Nanpeng station. This milestone will help integrate channels, logistics, and industries, fostering high-quality, efficient development of an inland opening-up comprehensive hub," said an official with the Port and Logistics Office of Chongqing Municipal People's Government.
Notably, this cross-border rail and road service is tailored specifically for locally produced motorcycle vehicles and parts in Banan District. As a national foreign trade transformation and upgrading base for motorcycles and parts, Banan District is home to leading motorcycle companies like Zonsen, Bashan, and Chongqing Shuangshi Motor Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
The district has formed a complete industrial chain covering engines, frames, shock absorbers, braking systems, and other components. This has fostered synergistic development with neighboring regions, creating a large-scale, competitive motorcycle industry cluster.
These products are exported to markets in Latin America, Central Asia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and beyond. In 2023, Banan's motorcycle industry saw an industrial output value of 14.3 billion yuan, with imports and exports exceeding 4.6 billion yuan.
