Bridging News
Against the backdrop of China’s deepening “dual carbon” goals (peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality) and the global transition into a new stage of sustainable development, the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, as a key driver of green growth, is embracing new missions and opportunities.
On September 26, the “Chain for a Greener Future, Exploring New Chapters of Carbon Neutrality” SERES Sustainability Forum 2025 and Green Industry Chain Strategy Launch Event was successfully held in Chongqing. The event highlighted SERES’ achievements in advancing sustainability through its ESG-driven strategy, while fostering the development of a multi-stakeholder, trust-based green value ecosystem.
The forum was attended by Zhang Zhengping, Rotating President of SERES Group; Fang Zengqiang, Deputy Researcher at the Center for International Economic and Technological Cooperation, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; as well as representatives from SERES’ supply chain partners and research institutions.
In the opening remarks, Zhang Zhengping emphasized that sustainability is embedded in SERES’ corporate DNA, with the company actively responding to China’s dual carbon goals by deeply integrating ESG principles into its development strategy. He shared SERES’ practical initiatives in areas such as carbon management digital platforms, technology, products, and green manufacturing. In particular, he highlighted that pure electric driving accounts for up to 70% of AITO vehicles, indicating that most users choose economical and environmentally friendly mobility in their daily lives.
Meanwhile, he outlined that SERES aims to achieve carbon neutrality in production and operations by 2045, with near-zero emissions across the entire value chain. This goal will be pursued through energy-saving and emission-reduction measures at every stage, including design, supply chain, and manufacturing, setting a benchmark for low-carbon management in the automotive industry. He affirmed SERES’ commitment to building a shared vision for green development with all partners, exploring collaborative innovation paths, deepening full-industry-chain cooperation, and jointly establishing a new ecosystem for the new energy vehicle industry that is green, low-carbon, intelligent, efficient, and mutually beneficial.
In the keynote speech titled “Upholding Sustainable Development and Driving Low-Carbon Transformation in the Automotive Industry”, Zhang Youhong, Strategic Planning Director of SERES Group, elaborated on SERES’ sustainable development initiatives, including low-carbon design, green manufacturing, and intelligent digital management, and provided recommendations for carbon reduction management across the supply chain. He emphasized that carbon footprint management is the key to implementing carbon neutrality, while supply chain carbon management constitutes the core of an automaker’s carbon footprint strategy. Looking ahead, SERES will continue to advance low-carbon transformation in the automotive sector, enhance ESG governance, and actively build a green industry chain, contributing to the achievement of China’s dual carbon goals.
Achieving near-zero emissions across the entire value chain requires collaborative efforts throughout the industry. To this end, Shi Zengchao, General Manager of the AITO Business Group Supply Chain System at SERES Group, on behalf of SERES, launched the initiative “Co-Building a Green Industry Chain and Creating a Green Innovation Ecosystem”. The initiative calls on partners to take joint action, integrating green and low-carbon considerations into corporate strategies and implementing practical measures such as carbon footprint management and system development, with the goal of jointly establishing a sustainable new ecosystem for the new energy vehicle industry.
Fang Zengqiang delivered a presentation titled “Research on Industrial Green and Low-Carbon Policies and Practices in Green Supply Chain Management”, interpreting policies related to green supply chains. He noted that since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has promoted the industrial green and low-carbon transformation through the guidance of the “four green” initiatives, including the construction of green supply chains. The aim is to comprehensively improve resource utilization efficiency and development quality, and to accelerate the green transformation of development models.
Following this, representatives from Ernst & Young and Yanfeng shared practical pathways and industry insights on implementing ESG principles from the perspectives of research institutions and the supply chain, providing inspiration and reference for SERES in advancing its green strategy.
During the forum, the “Chain for a Greener Future, Exploring New Chapters of Carbon Neutrality” launch ceremony was held, marking the official commencement of a new journey for SERES and its supply chain partners in collaboratively promoting low-carbon transformation.
In the following roundtable discussion, Kang Bo, Vice President of SERES Group, moderated the session. Representatives from supply chain partners, including CATL, engaged in a lively discussion on the theme of “Co-Creating a Green Industry Ecosystem”, exploring key topics such as the challenges and opportunities in building a green and low-carbon supply chain, mechanisms for industrial chain development and low-carbon transformation innovation, the construction and application value of supply chain real-world databases, and strategies for responding to emerging international environmental regulations.
Looking ahead, SERES will continue to promote sustainable development by collaborating with supply chain partners to explore paths of joint innovation, deepen full-industry-chain cooperation, and jointly establish a new ecosystem for the new energy vehicle industry that is green, low-carbon, intelligent, efficient, and mutually beneficial and shared.
