On October 12, The 2025 “Belt and Road” International Symposium on Food Safety and Nutrition and and 2025 International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education,Research and Application (Chongqing) Food Safety and Nutrition Session opened in Beibei District, Chongqing.
The event was co-hosted by the China-Hungary Belt and Road Joint Laboratory of Food Science, the China-Hungary Food Science Cooperation Research Center of Southwest University, the College of Food Science of Southwest University, the Beibei District Science and Technology Bureau of Chongqing, and the Mianyang Science and Technology Bureau of Sichuan Province. It attracted nearly 200 experts and scholars from Hungary, Russia, Egypt, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, and other countries to participate both online and offline, engaging in in-depth discussions on new pathways for international cooperation in food safety and nutrition.
During the conference, experts from six countries including Hungary, Egypt, and Brazil, along with nine scholars from China, delivered 22 academic reports focusing on topics such as digital and intelligent food processing, nutrition and health, and cross-border food safety standards. Experts from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University shared insights on the “Application of Intelligent Monitoring Technologies in Food Safety,” while the China-Hungary research team from Southwest University presented their latest achievements in “Microbial Resource Development and the Health Industry.”
Participants also reviewed the collaborative experiences since the establishment of the China-Hungary Joint Laboratory and explored innovative models for international scientific and technological cooperation under new global circumstances. Members of the Hungarian delegation noted the strong complementarity between China and Hungary in the field of food science and technology, suggesting further cooperation in areas such as functional food development and global supply chain security.
In recent years, Beibei District has been actively building an innovative ecosystem known as “One Circle, One Port, One Park.” Centered around Southwest University, this initiative includes an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem surrounding the campus, a talent service hub, and the Mingyue Lake Science and Innovation Park. The China-Hungary Joint Laboratory, as the second national-level platform established in Beibei, has become an important hub for regional scientific innovation and international exchange.
The successful hosting of this symposium not only injected new momentum into the development of the joint laboratory but also enhanced the international influence of both Beibei District and Southwest University. At the closing ceremony, the organizers announced plans to establish a regular international cooperation mechanism and to release periodic China-Hungary Joint Research Reports on Food Science and Technology—contributing a “Chinese solution” to the building of a global community of health for all.
